Truth. Truth. Truth.

"If you don't want to be beaten, imprisoned, mutilated, killed or tortured, then you shouldn't condone such behavior towards anyone, be they human or not. - Moby (thanks, Sarah!)

"For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. He who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love." - Pythagoras

Foer argues that there's no difference between the value of the lives of pets and the lives of the animals that we eat every day. Read the article, listen to the audio here.

Obesely starved.

Alicia Silverstone has a book out which talks about the advantages of a vegan diet and it presents recipes. Here's a good TV interview with her posted on her blog.

Some observations from watching part 2:

- yes, lady, going vegetarian/vegan means you can't be lazy, that's right. Convenience has a price and we can see the result of it in the appearance of most Americans.

- I get so mad when people refer to animals as "stupid". That says so much more about the speaker than anything he spills from the hole outside his neck, and plus, the "designed to eat meat" excuse is as good as the "gateway drug" bunk theory. Anthony Bourdain is an unhealthy alcoholic, first of all. He makes money from a "cooking" show that displays nothing but his bad habits, and he looks it. His skin is as red as it can be from his frequent habit of drinking alcohol. Anyone that craves alcohol and junk foods is nutritionally deficient to begin with. And they both, addition to alcohol and addiction to bad foods, perpetuate and complement each other. I don't even know what contribution he is making to this show than to say "meat is delicious", which equals to zero, really. Nothing more than his opinion.

Factory farming’s not the problem — it’s animal farming

"Large health care corporations are doing it. Trendy groceries are doing it. Environmental advocacy groups are doing it. Suddenly, it’s all the rage to tout animal-based farming that’s sustainable and healthful.

What if we took such models of agribusiness seriously? (...) the heap would be spread about over a lot more pasture.

Even if eating animal products could make us healthy — and that’s not a particularly persuasive proposition — animals fed an all-organic diet would make for an end product that’s beyond financial means of most of the world’s households.

And if corporations were to take free-range seriously — not just removing cages, but buying access to pasture — then it’s a matter of finding those communities able to pay for the bodies of animals who, when living, took up the most space. That flunks the straight-face test. From both an animal rights and an environmental perspective, space for animal agribusiness doesn’t need to be expanded; it needs to be phased out.

Already, most of the landmass of the contiguous United States is taken up by agriculture — primarily for resource-guzzling animal processing. Worldwide, the demand of six billion humans for physical space is vastly expanded as animals are bred into existence to be food commodities. These domestic animals now outnumber us by an estimated factor of three to one. There is nothing sustainable, let alone kind, about animal agribusiness."

Raw..getting closer to a start...

Suzi Blu suggested it, and so do a lot of reviewers on Amazon. I just bought it.

I found this interview on Twitter:
"Amanda told me that people concerned with her raw food vegan lifestyle never once approached her with concern when she ate processed foods. It wasn’t until she took an interest in nutrition and began to eat really healthy that the people around her began questioning her choices." (read the entire interview here)
IMO, that is due to people knowing you are getting out of the box they are in, and everyone that's in a box wants company. It's the same reason we have drinking buddies, exercise buddies, victimization buddies, etc. Every time one tries to get out of the "group" they are in, the people in the group suddenly want to pull that person back. That's all it is.

Here are many health and nutrition books I personally recommend. I own some of those, and the others are in my wish list.

I've been finding so many great health foods blogs and web sites. Some I've been listing on the sidebar list of links. Please check them out.

Lots more raw foods vids on Ani Phyo's channel. And her web site.

PS: I am in the process of fixing the format of the blog so that the sidebar is not hidden. It's just that the way I'm doing takes a while (matching the html of my other blog), so pls be patient with me. :)
